We are a not-for-profit film Society run by a group of volunteers, screening films not usually shown at local cinemas – Contemporary independent British, American and world cinema as well as documentaries, avant garde and experimental Films.
A member of the British Federation of Film Societies, we operate in an open and democratic way, with programming and other decisions made collectively.
Currently we screen world and European cinema and British and American Independent films every Tuesday evening at the ‘Rochester Picture Palace’ (held at the Huguenot Museum in Rochester High Street), as well as children’s cinema on Saturday mornings at the same venue. There are usually introductions to the films and the option to take part in an informal post-screening chat, where thoughts on the films are shared over a drink.
We have also staged pop-up events at the Nucleus Gallery in Rochester, the Historic Dockyard and on the Edith May barge and have had a number of successful Q&A events with directors, writers and actors from the films we show.
Our ambition for the future is to create a permanent home for alternative cinema in Rochester.
